Facilities in our Kew East funeral home

State of the art modern facilities at our funeral home in Kew East include:

  • A welcoming reception and foyer area which includes a multi-purpose water feature. This can be used as a base for a sculpture, coffin or as a standalone feature.
  • Bespoke modern artwork. The sculpture which is currently placed on top of the water feature was designed specifically for our funeral home by multi-award winning Shoso. The form is inspired by the magnolia flower which in some cultures signifies an enduring true love that lasts throughout time and space. Based on the Ikebana aesthetics, this sculpture shows the different stages of an opening flower. As the viewer walks around, the flower may slowly open before their eyes.
Shoso also created an artwork of floating petals which is displayed in our foyer area. The work represents flower petals floating on running water and is one of the most highly admired poetic images in Japanese culture. It signifies both the transience of our existence and the eternal cycle of nature, our spirituality.
  • A beautifully renovated on-site chapel which is drenched in natural sunlight that streams through the floor to ceiling windows. It comfortably seats 114 guests, with additional standing room available. Guests can also join from the reflection lounge which has a TV screen for the service to be projected onto in real time.
  • Live streaming technology enabling guests to join the service remotely. Live streaming allows you to join from anywhere in the world on a device that has internet connectivity. You’re able to choose different camera angles and feel like you are part of the service even if you can’t attend physically.
  • A light-filled reflection lounge with catering available from Farewell Catering, menu here
  • Dining tables, cocktail tables, lounge seating and a bar area are available to provide a comfortable atmosphere, not only for after funeral gatherings but any kind of celebration such as birthdays and anniversaries.
  • 3 arrangement rooms and 1 viewing room providing privacy for meetings and viewings. Comfortable seating and refreshments are available.
  • Complimentary on-site parking is available for 44 cars, including 2 disability access bays. Additional street parking is available on Oswin Street and Clyde Street. We are conveniently located close to public transport.

Meet James Malachi, Le Pine Funerals Kew East location manager.

What do you enjoy about your job?

The variety.  Each day is different, and this is one of the things I love about my job.  Being a funeral director requires a lot of skill and a dedicated work-ethic. There’s an emphasis not only on respecting the deceased, but also having well-engrained customer service skills, event management and business management skills. Above all, it’s about creating a positive impact in people’s lives, which I love.

How long have you been location manager?

I have been serving as the location’s manager since 2014.

What do you enjoy in your spare time?

Running, Rowing, 4WDing and hanging out with friends and family.

Are there any special community groups you work with or support?

Advance Care Planning: I help educate individuals, their loved ones, carers and healthcare professionals the importance of making an “Advance Care Plan” for the future.  This reduces anxiety and improves outcomes for all involved.

R U OK?: I present and do campaigns to inspire and empower everyone to have meaningful conversations and to connect with people who could be struggling with life.

Blue Ribbon: I help raise funds for The Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation, which perpetuates the memory of the 159 Victoria Police employees who have died in the line of duty through the support of worthwhile community projects in Victoria.
